Swans fans will certainly struggle to contain their excitement ahead of the 2018 season after Lance Franklin put on a show in Sydney’s dominant 55-point victory over Brisbane in Saturday’s JLT Community Series clash at Burpengary.
Star forward Franklin featured heavily across all four quarters, kicking four goals and playing a hand in others as the Swans cruised to a 14.11 (95) to 5.10 (40) victory.
The Swans held a two-point lead at the first break, before piling on the goals to put a scrappy Lions outfit to bed.
Sydney kicked 11 consecutive goals after quarter time to stretch their legs, while Brisbane could only manage three behinds across the second and third terms.
Franklin’s performance was the talking point, scoring in the first minute before kicking two in the second quarter and another in the third.
On a more positive note, how good has this man looked!

Sydney were strong all over the field, with Josh Kennedy (25 disposals), Kieren Jack (22), Luke Parker (21) Dane Rampe (21) and Callum Mills (18) all sharing the workload.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Swans – defender Aliir Aliir didn’t feature after quarter-time after an ankle complaint, while ruckman Callum Sinclair suffered a nasty-looking ankle injury of his own in the third term.
Brisbane showed glimpses of improvement versus previous years, narrowly losing the contested possession count 121-119, while Tom Bell and Stefan Martin shared 23 clearances.
However, scoring just five goals from 39 inside-50s kept the Lions behind the eight ball as the Swans executed their plans with comfort, while Brisbane’s No.1 draft pick Cameron Rayner gathered five disposals in a subdued outing.
Two derbies await both sides for their next pre-season clashes – Sydney will play GWS at Blacktown on Friday night, while Brisbane will take on Gold Coast at Southport on Sunday.
The match against the Suns is expected to be Luke Hodge’s debut for the Lions.
