Two men arrested after Mackellar Girls High School at Manly Vale put in lockdown

A northern beaches high school was put into lockdown during a police hunt for three men this afternoon.

Police advised Mackellar Girls High School at Manly Vale that they were looking for the trio who had fled a suspected stolen car.

Northern Beaches detectives saw the white Toyota RAV 4 in Campbell Pde at about midday.

When detectives approached the car driver fled first, quickly followed by the other two men.

A PolAir helicopter was called in to the search.

Northern Beaches Crime Manager, Mick Boutouridis said one of the men jumped into Manly Creek, just east of the high school on Campbell Pde, in an effort to evade officers.

Chief Insp. Boutouridis said the school was notified that police were searching for three men.

“The school was put into lockdown,” he said.

“A police perimeter was set up and the police helicopter was called in.”

All three men were in taken into custody just after 1pm.

The school lockdown lasted about an hour.

Insp. Boutouridis said the Toyota Rav 4 SUV had allegedly been stolen after a break-in at a home in Curl Curl on Sunday night.

Officers allegedly found stolen property in the car from at least two recent burglaries on the northern beaches.

After the three men were taken into custody, one was later released.

The two remaining men were being questioned at Manly Police Station on Monday night.
