According to science, you don’t have to be physically blessed to be more attractive to the opposite sex
The holy grail for a man about town is finding a way to make himself more attractive to women. They go to great lengths to build their bodies and traverse the entire globe, learning new languages whilst perfecting their culinary skills. Advice comes and goes, from friends and family members, but, however well intentioned, these tips and tricks will not necessarily help you snag the woman in your sights. So, with so many conflicting views, what’s a man to do?
Researchers have come to the conclusion that there are seven main qualities in a man that make them more attractive to the opposite sex. Their conclusions favour personality over looks, and are a comforting reminder that you don’t need the jawline of Ryan Gosling or the build of Idris Elba to attract the woman you want.
Approachability is attractive
This is not a patronising reassurance to make you feel better with your lot – it’s a scientific fact. Studies have shown that, although women are attracted to handsome men when it comes to a short term fling, they look to more approachable gentlemen for a meaningful relationship.
Selflessness wins out
If you’re looking for a long term relationship, research has shown rather unsurprisingly that women are attracted to a man who is generous and unselfish over someone who is vain.
An older man is a more attractive man
A legacy from our cave-dwelling days. Dubbed the ‘George Clooney effect’ by researchers, women are attracted to ‘the older man’ as they tend to have more resources, enabling them to be established both professionally and financially. Although this may be out of reach for younger gentlemen, it is certainly something to look forward to when your time comes around.
Whether you’re a Jamie Dornan or more of a Adam Sandler, funny men are sexier than bland ones. Seen as a sign of intelligence, a good sense of humour is instrumental in getting a woman interested in you.
Show your sensitive side – and get a dog
The popular myth has been empirically tested and verified, men with dogs are indeed more attractive to women. This is not just about women coming up to you in the street to pet and coo over your canine, research shows that it makes you appear a more caring person.
A good first impression is vital
Be aware, and think before you speak. Once a half thought comment is out of your mouth, it’s out, and irreversible damage could be done. In a date based scenario, experiments have shown that women are more attractive to men who are non-judgemental, observant and respectful.
Be a risk taker
Women are more attracted to men who take risks in life, whether it be for work (starting your own business, perhaps?) or leisure (jumping off a plane at 12,000 feet, anyone?). So if you’re not pulling people from burning houses for a living, maybe you should take up a sport or hobby that showcases your innately masculine and fearless instincts.
